Villanova Student Chapter Events

The VU Student Chapter met on Thursday March 19th, 2009.
In attendance were 35 students
ranging from sophomores to seniors, Dr. Leslie McCarthy, VU’s new
Student Chapter Advisor, Nelson Schaffer and Brian Keaveney of
Pennoni Associates, VU’s Capstone Project Advisors, and the two
guest speakers for the evening, Ms. Elaine Elbich, PennDOT District
6-0 PM, and Ms. Amy Fox, FWHA’s Metropolitan Intermodal Engineer in
the Philly office.
Ms. Elbich spoke on behalf of PennDOT’s Summer Intern program and
the various opportunities to work with the different units within

Ms. Fox was the headline speaker and presented on her topic
entitled “Bridge and Highway Construction Inspection, Contracts, and
Change Orders: Federal Agency Perspective”. Her discussions
centered around her experiences as a former consultant and now as a
federal employee charged with oversight for multi-million dollar
construction projects in the Philly region. Ms. Fox focused on
documentation of construction activities, complete and accurate
design plans and tabulation of quantities, claims by contractors,
and maintenance and protection of traffic activities.
