The world of transportation is transforming at a rapid pace.  The challenges and opportunities created by these changes impact society and people’s quality of life in ways hardly predictable. Now, more than ever, we need Transportation Leaders that can effectively communicate, collaborate and advocate to help our communities navigate this evolution.  To this end, ITE has established the LeadershipITE program. The goal of the is to grow and empower leaders within the transportation industry to prepare them for greater roles within their professional capacity as well as within ITE and other associations.  Since 2014, LeadershipITE has been identifying, developing, and engaging leaders to ensure that ITE and its members are positioned to participate and shape the future of transportation. Nelson J. Shaffer was an ITE Fellow and Life Member, a past president of MASITE (1993), a past president of the Mid-Colonial District (1997), the International Director for Mid-Colonial District (2001-2003) and a recipient of the Donald M. McNeil Award in 2002.  Nelson embodied the word Leadership and was a consistent presence within ITE over the years; providing guidance, mentoring and energy to our Section and the District leaders and members.  For those reasons, MASITE is honoring his legacy by supporting members of our section with their LeadershipITE tuition.  (Payment will be made directly to ITE International for tuition.)

Section members who are in good standing for at least two years within the section can apply for the scholarship by completing this form and submitting it to the President for a Board vote.  Based on the availability of funds, the scholarship is available to assist with a portion (up to $500 per candidate) of the tuition.  Successful scholarship winners will be notified by November 1^st.
